Graintech India

Bangalore Hosts India's Biggest Agri Show

Poultry & Livestock is an integral part of Indian agriculture --Tariq Anwar

"Poultry and Livestock sector is an invaluable part of agriculture, and is contributing enormously towards the agricultural GDP. The segment gives opportunity to small and landless farmers to earn daily cash and have a kind of social security," said Tariq Anwar, MoS, Ministry of Agriculture & food processing, Govt of India while delivering inaugural address to South Asia's 3rd Feed, Dairy & Livestock Industry congress, organized on the sideline of the 5th Agri Tech India 2013, held in Bangalore during August 23-25. The event was organized by Media Today Group.

6 shows under one roof

The massive and comprehensive agri-event had 5 concurrent expos--the 5th India Foodex, 4th GrainTech India, 3rd Dairy Tech India, 2nd Poultry & Livestock Expo, and Flora Tech--bringing under one roof virtually all activities relating to agri business. This platform has been conceptualized by Media Today Group, dedicated to agri and food sector for nearly last two decades.

Expert speakers

Experts from the industry including Vijay Sardana (AgriBusiness Expert), Dr AK Srivastava, Director, NDRI (Karnal), Arie Veldhuizen, Counselor for Agriculture, Embassy of the Netherlands, Henk Van Duijn, Vice President, NAFTC, Dr Dinesh Bhosale, Chairman, CLFMA of India, feed scientists and researchers from various institutes, and representatives from different livestock and feed companies were the speakers at the conference.

Major participants

Several livestock, poultry and feed companies took part in the expo. Prominent stalls were put up by companies like AB Vista South Asia, Praj Industries Ltd, PVR Koi Centre (Japanese fish), and Synthite Industries Ltd. Representatives from various companies of the sector too part in the conference. The list included CLFMA, KSE Feeds, Nutrikraft Feeds, and Berg+Schmidt India Pvt Ltd.

The expo was inaugurated by Food and Civil Supplies Minister of Karnataka, Dinesh Gundu Rao. Food Minister called for policy changes, use of latest technology, and a check on wasteful expenditure to take agriculture and livestock sector forward. He also took an aesthetic walk around the stalls, and talked to company representatives.

Tariq Anwar called the expo a big Agri-Booster. Lauding the organizer, he said, "I feel really great to visit this show which is very comprehensive in nature along with the conference aiming to solve the bottlenecks of farm, feed and dairy sector. It is really encouraging to see a lot of visitors, delegates and exhibitors under one roof willing to change the face of the Indian agriculture, poultry and livestock sector. I am very happy to be here".

The inaugural ceremony of the three-day show (23-25 August) saw the presence of several high-profile dignitaries including Trade Counselors from several embassies, CEOs, MDs of several leading overseas and Indian agribusiness firms.

Focus on poultry & livestock

Explaining the need for Poultry &Livestock Expo, MB Naqvi said, "This is important for farmers in terms of value-addition such as rearing cattle and poultry which can certainly increase their revenue. Today, farmers are interested to explore further possibilities to multiply their income. And it makes sense for them to do ancillary activities such as keeping poultry and cattle as it would not be too much of a burden for them. So, while they are growing main crops, they can also look after their animals and poultry to get extra income, which they so badly need".

Vijay Sardana aptly called this segment as an "ATM for small and landless farmers".
