Evaluation of comparative performances of non-descript local duck and crossbred duck with Khaki Campbell duck under traditional and modified method of duck rearing through implementation of some suitable technological interventions were studied from day old to forty weeks of age at Barua village of West Midnapore district, West Bengal. Traditional and progressive duck farmers of this village were divided into four categories having more than hundred numbers of duck in each category viz., TL, PL, TC and PC where TL duck farmers maintained local non-descript duck with traditional method, PL duck farmers maintained local duck with modified method, TC duck farmers maintained crossbred duck (Local duck X Khaki Campbell duck) with traditional method and PC duck farmers maintained crossbred duck (Local duck X Khaki Campbell duck) with modified method. In modified method some technological interventions were included to this village duck farmers which was followed by deworming, vaccination, brooding and litter management, feeding system, supplementation of minerals and vitamins. Cross breeding program was made by replacing local non-descript drake with Khaki Campbell drake and the chicks of F1 generation were maintained by the duck farmers through traditional and improved method of duck rearing. It was observed that crossbred duck maintained by modified method (PC) revealed significantly (P<0.05) higher body weight gain, more egg production and enhanced livability percentage compared to traditional system of crossbred duck rearing (TC) where low egg production, low body weight gain and reduced livability percentage. Moreover, local duck maintained by modified rearing system (PL) produced better performances on laying %, body weight gain and livability % compared to traditional method of local duck rearing. From this study it can be concluded that duck rearing under application of modified method with cross breeding program enhanced the performances of egg production, body weight gain and livability percentage.
