Poultry production plays a crucial role in the upliftment of socio-economic status of the poultry farmers. It may be subsidiary source of employment and income for farmers, agriculture laborers and educated unemployed. A study was conducted in Haldwani Tehsil of Nainital district of Uttaranchal to understand the constraints and need of poultry farmers in poultry production as a viable subsidiary enterprise in this region. The data were collected from 80 randomly selected poultry farms. The study revealed that the following constraints were faced by the poultry farmers; economic, management, marketing, price, Infrastructure, communication and technological problems, the constraints infrastructure – like transport facilities and lack of proper housing, insufficient veterinary care, high prices of medicines/vaccines, feed cost and chicks.
