The effect of supplementation of phytase on growth performance at Ca: tP rations of 1:1, 1.2:1, 1.4:1 and 2:1 was studied on broilers in this experiments. A total of 225 one-week-old chicks were randomly distributed in sixteen groups of twelve chicks in each. Four wheat based diets with Ca:tP ratio of 1:1,1.2:1,1.4:1,and 2:1 were formulated by varying the deoiled rice bran and lime stone powder. Eight experimental diets with or without phytase were constituted and randomly allocated to a duplicate group of chicks. Significant (P £ 0.01) effects of phytase supplementation on the growth performance and feed, protein and energy conversions (1-3 week) and weight gain and feed consumption (4-5 and 1-5 weeks of age) were observed. The effects of widening the Ca:tP ratio irrespective of phytase supplementation on growth performance were significant (P £ 0.01). Similarly significant (P £ 0.01) effects of phytase (600 units/kg) irrespective of Ca: tP ratio on feed consumption (4-5 th weeks) and both weight gain and feed consumption (1-5 th week) was recorded.
