Osborne Index selection in IWI and IWH was evaluated over 5 generations. The traits studied were ASM, 16wk body weight, 40wk body weight, 28 wk egg weight, 40 wk egg weight, 64 wk egg weight, 40 wk egg production and 64 wk egg production. Phenotypic responses in these traits respectively were 3.67± 1.13days, -38.50 ± 7.80g, -45.00 ± 26.10g, 0.49 ± 0.29g, -0.79 ± 0.57g, -0.48 ± 0.59g, 2.22 ± 0.27eggs and 3.47 ± 1.13eggs in IWI. These responses respectively in IWH were 3.99 ± 0.76days, -36.00 ± 8.07g, -43.40 ± 33.27g, 0.37 ± 0.34g, -0.87 ± 0.49g, -0.56 ± 0.44g, 2.36 ± 1.35eggs and 2.95 ± 0.27eggs. The corresponding genetic responses in IWI respectively were –0.34 ± 0.48days, 54.30 ± 12.83g, 5.30 ± 12.83g, 5.10 ± 12.73g, 0.15 ± 0.37g, 0.30 ± 0.23g, 0.41 ± 0.30g, 1.28 ± 0.65 eggs and 8.76 ± 4.95eggs. In IWH these responses respectively were 0.04 ± 1.67days, 56.80 ± 16.31g, 6.70 ± 19.90g, 0.02 ± 0.33g, 0.63 ± 0.60g, 0.33 ± 0.25g, 2.38 ± 1.78eggs and 10.02 ± 4.20eggs. On phenotypic scale there was decline in 16wk body weight, 40wk body weight, 40wk egg weight and 64 wk egg weight, but there was increasing trend in 28wk egg weight, ASM, 40wk egg production and 64wk egg production. in both the lines. On genetic scale there was decline in ASM in IWI line, but not in IWH line. All other traits on genetic scale showed a positive trend. These responses indicated that as the egg number increases egg weight showed a declining trend. However, 28wk egg weight did not decrease because of independent culling level selection applied on this trait. There was significant increase in egg number 64wk of age from base generation to current generation in both the lines.
