Impact of some socio- economic variables on adoption of poultry farming in Garhwal hills of Uttaranchal

A study was conducted during 2003-2004 to evaluate the socio and economic factors as related to poultry farming in Tehri district of Garhwal Himalaya. The primary data was collected on randomly selected 90 poultry farmers of Tehri district by personnel interview. The study revealed a great number educated youth & women adopted poultry farming and majority of farmers of this region adopted backyard poultry farming to meat up the family nutrition requirement and additional income for improving their economic status. The farmers preferred hardy and dual-purpose poultry system, which can better perform in adverse climatic conditions of hill areas. The training program indicated their impact for motivating the farmers for adopting poultry farming practices enhancing the productivity.
