Sheep pox is amongst the most virulent of the poxes in the sheep. It is highly contagious and spreads by direct contacts. The virus is highly resistant. The disease is recognized by fever, which lasts for 1-2 days before eruptions appear on areas of skin, which are not covered by wool/hair. The affected animals do not eat, have difficult breathing, stand separately from healthy animals with their heads down, may have salivation, lachrymator, bronchial coughs and diarrhea. The disease course is of 3-6 weeks.

The vaccine contains 103 TCID50 attenuated virus propagated in Tissue culture system in freeze dried form.

The vaccine has been foud to cause minimal reaction at the site of injection and no systemic reaction at all. The immunity conferred by this vaccine is sold 95% lasting over one year.
